iOS vs Android, Trends and Market Share

Android is the leading operating system in Spain. In 2017 its market share is 92.0%, compared to 7.5% of iOS.

A smartphone’s uses are increasing within our interconnected society. Smartphones account for 81% of mobile use, with 21 million smartphone users in the country

Comparing data from Spain to the rest of Europe, Android covers three quarters of the market with 76.3% in the first quarter of 2017. iOS has increased usage by 1.9 percentage points in the past year, reaching 20.7% of users, according to a report by Kantar.

In the United States, however, iOS’s market share is much higher than in Europe. There, the market consists of 30.7% iOS and Android 67.6%.

The highlight of this evolution is how operating systems such as Blackberry or Windows phone have disappeared. The market share is now divided between Android & iOS.

iOS has maintained constant growth between 6-10% despite variations in other technology’s use.

As leaders in the sector, the race to launch the latest smartphone innovations is in Apple and Samsung’s hands.  They are following the Asian smartphone brands’ trend with low-middle cost sales, such as Huawei or Xiaomi.
